Still waiting...

Yep, still pregnant.

This is me at 40 weeks and 2 days. Don't let the picture fool you. It's not as much fun as it looks. At the doctor on Tuesday, the due date, we discussed the option of being induced, but I said I wanted to wait for a week to be induced, thinking it would be any day now. Now, I'm rethinking that. 3 days after the due date doesn't sound like it's that long, but when you're sitting around day after day with nothing to do except wait for a baby that doesn't want to come out, it's a LONG time. Especially when you didn't even expect to make it to the due date.

This is my mom, also waiting ever so patiently for the baby's arrival. She flew out here from St. Louis on Wednesday the 18th, and then we spent the rest of the week getting ready for the baby. We went shopping for all the things that we still needed to get. (You can tell from the top picture that the baby has more stuff in his room now than he did in the pictures from before.) We got a dresser and organized things, and I must say his room looks pretty darn cute now. We even got my hospital bag all packed and ready to grab at a moments notice. On Saturday, the 21st, we had a late St. Patricks Day dinner. I was worried that I was going to go into labor and miss the celebration, but I made it. We had corned beef, potatoes, carrots etc., the traditional food. It was delicious.

And now we're waiting. We're running out of things to do to distract me from the predicament. I've been trying to fill my time with things that are supposed to induce labor. I've done a lot of walking (which isn't so easy when you have an 8 pound baby resting on your pelvic bone), eating spicy foods, drinking raspberry tea (thanks to Sarah Easton!), all the things that people say will make you go into labor. Nothing. I'm just waiting patiently (or at least trying to) for some strong contractions that will send me into labor. We'll let you know when anything does happen!

Happy Pi Day!

Coming from a family of engineers, and being married to a math and engineering guy, Pi day is a pretty big deal.  To celebrate pi day this year, I made a delicious apple pie.

The Math department at BYU always does something on campus to celebrate pi day.  Since it was on a Saturday this year, they had to celebrate on Friday, because very few people are on campus on Saturday.  Among the pi day festivities was an Integration Bee (think of a spelling bee, but with integrals from calculus).  Mckay competed in the Integration Bee and he won first place!  Although I wasn't able to be there to see it, I hear he was amazing.  This bee was a qualifying round of sorts to see who will compete in the big competion this friday.  I hope that he'll be able to go and that I can go cheer him on, but the baby has a mind of his own, so we'll see.  I am so amazed at Mckay for winning.  He loves math and he is so smart.  I'm proud of him.

The Baby Room

I've been working on getting the baby's room ready for when he's born.  Since the due date is approaching, I've really cracked down to get the room finished.  When we moved into the apartment, the second bedroom became the place to put things that didn't really have a place.  As a result, the room was really cluttered and full of stuff.  But I've worked to get the room looking good (which was a challenge sometimes with me being pregnant!).  It still needs a dresser for all his cute little clothes, but it's pretty much ready for a little guy to live in.

And here is a close up of the crib.  Notice the cute cribskirt that my sister-in-law made.

The Quilt

A few months after we found out I was pregnant, I decided that I really wanted to make a quilt for our little baby.  I wanted to get started on it right away, because I wasn't sure how long it would take me and I wanted to have it finished before the baby was born.  At this point, we didn't know yet if it was a boy or a girl.  We both kinda thought it was a boy (Eastons always have boys first) and Mckay is always right, so I went ahead and started making a blue quilt for a boy.  I figured I had a 50% chance of being right, and if it did turn out to be a girl, I could save this quilt for the next one.

Now, I'm not a very crafty person and I've never really been that good at sewing.  During my sophomore year of college, my roommate decided that she wanted to make a Christmas quilt.  She had some experience with quilting, and so I helped her with this quilt and learned a few things along the way.  She did the whole thing by hand, so that was really the only way I knew to do mine.  Plus I didn't have a sewing machine.  I cut all the squares and sewed them together by hand.  Then I put the squares, batting, and fleece backing together and tied it with yarn.  Around this point, my family came to visit for Thanksgiving and brought a sewing machine with them for me to use.  I finished the edges of the blanket with the sewing machine, because I wanted those stitches to be a little more sturdy and secure.  I had never really sewed with a machine before, so again, I just played around a bit and kinda figured out what to do.  And now, I have a beautiful blanket for my baby (which is a boy, according to the ultrasound).

Here's a close up of the patterns and edge.

The colors are a little off on this one, but you get the idea.

With the quilt being handsewn and machine sewn by a person who isn't that good at sewing, there are a few little funky things on the quilt.  But I think it gives the quilt character.  And he won't be able to tell.  At least not for a long time!
